Did you know that yesterday was Ada Lovelace Day? An international day of blogging to celebrate the achievements of women in technology and science, organised by Suw Charman-Anderson. Ada Lovelace was one of the world’s first computer programmers, and one of the first people to see computers as more than just a machine for doing sums. She wrote programmes for Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, a general-purpose computing machine, despite the fact that it was never built.
Suw felt that there just wasn’t enough being written about women achieving in the technology field.
All sounds touch geeky? Then check out the people in this Guardian article and you’ll see how far we’ve come despite resistances from certain quarters in the technology industry. There is some nice video content in it too.

Is there a woman you know and admire working in a technology setting – why share something below and leave a comment?

Great Breakfast Seminar today marking an inaugural collaboration between DMG, the UK’s largest digital marketing business, and Ad Lib. 30 marketing professionals enjoyed a range of presentations from four pundits around the theme of social marketing and reputation management online:
Speakers included Dean Drew – MD of Hyperlaunch and former Client side marketer explored the areas of measuring ROI and Reputation Management online; an interesting approach to Social Marketing by Sea France was presented by their Head of E-Commerce, Phil Taylor; an energetic and thought provoking review of how careful measuring online can create real business opportunities was delivered by Seb Hempstead of Brandwatch; and the tale of offline moving online and the potential a well-run blog can bring, from Faye Penfold of SuitYourself magazine.

The event drew people in from London such as Visit Britain, the Midlands as well as well-known West brands such as Kraft, Clarks and Ecotricity. Were you there? What did you think? Please feel free to post a comment?

Ad Lib’s next FREE seminar will take place on the 30th March and is entitled ‘Make yourself memorable’ and looks at how to make the most of networking situations you find yourself in. Presented by Melissa Kidd of Coaching Creatives, you’ll discover 6 principles which if applied correctly will help you stand out from the crowd for all the right reasons. If you would like to book a place email frank@adlib-recruitment.co.uk asap.

They want clients to agree to a rule that no more than three agencies should be invited to pitch for a piece of business.

Twitter launched it’s new Local Trends service today to help users keep up to date with what’s happening specifically in their local area. Less good is the fact that it only narrows things down to 13 cities or 6 countries – and Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham, Southampton, Brighton, Reading etc. are surprisingly not included. Only a matter of time, we’re sure.
